CTH Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management

QCA validated & NQF rated at Level 5, this course acts as the first two years of the degree.

Year 1

The first year of the programme introduces the concept of hotel management and examines the practical and business functions of a hotel from a supervisory/junior management perspective.

By the end of the first year students will understand the practical elements of the running of a modern hotel, together with the business practices involved and the technology that underpins them. They will also have an understanding of the social and economic environment in which the hotel operates and the role of organisations within that environment.

Students take examinations set and marked by CTH during this programme and have access to course materials prepared by CTH.

Year 2

The second year of the programme builds on the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the first year.

The emphasis here is on the operation of a hotel from a departmental manager's perspective and consequently, the syllabus has a substantial business administration content. As with the final year of the degree, assessment is on the basis of coursework as well as examination.

Students who are successful on this programme, pass the coursework, and achieve a 'merit' profile (average 60%) in the final examinations, may be considered for entry to the final year of the degree.

NB. Applications for direct entry to the second year are invited from holders of recognised Diploma level qualifications from the UK and overseas and also from those with industry experience.
