Excellence in English

Here at Regent International, we understand that international students may need some extra support in raising their levels of written and spoken English to a good standard in order that they might pursue their academic studies.

In view of this we offer enrolment in our after-school and weekend tuition classes. Of particular relevance to international students are our Excellence In English classes.

This is a comprehensive and intensive educational programme, suitable for every student. Each student has an individual programme which is tailored to meet their needs and requirements. It practically addresses the specific difficulties of English and is structured to deliver success and confidence.

We concentrate on grammar, syntax, vocabulary in context, comprehension skills and written work. On completion of this course, students are able to write and communicate effectively and at a high level which makes it an excellent foundation for success in examinations.

Students attend at least once a week in small group classes.

Fees: £10 per hour

Regent College can offer a comprehensive range of full-time, part-time and intensive courses at all levels throughout the year, and students can be accommodated at their individual level at any time. These courses are especially suitable for students in order to participate in certain examinations or enter into higher education.

English as a Second language Courses

General English Course

This course gives students a grounding in everyday use of the English Language. It is designed to accommodate all different levels of ability and gives students the opportunity to become familiar with both written English and conversational English.

Our tutors are all trained and experienced teachers of English. As well as course books, we use a wide range of material including video and audio-tapes, newspapers, magazines and computer-based learning materials.

Academic English Course

The Regent College Academic English course not only provides the best preparation for the IELTS exam but also includes elements of the General English course and introduces students to the use of English in the context of education.

Universities and Colleges use IELTS (International English Language Testing System) to determine the English level of non-native speakers before they begin a course. There is no pass or fail but a scoring system from 0 - 9. Generally, students are asked to achieve a score of 5.5 - 7.5 but this depends on the course they intend to study. It is possible to sit the exam any given week, but we will need to book your place at least 4 weeks in advance.

The IELTS part of the course concentrates on the demands of academic reading and writing as well as the speaking and listening parts of the test. Our experienced teachers will help you to plan a self-study programme to go with the course.
