On 9th December 2015, Regent Independent College welcomed theatre group Alter Ego to perform Chelsea’s Choice, a play about child sexual exploitation. The play was performed to all the year groups here at the college and was based on a real life story and centred around a teenage girl who became isolated from her school friends and was then groomed by an older man who first lulled her into a false sense of security, but then began to take away her freedom, her confidence and ability to make her own decisions with devastating long-term consequences. The play deftly illustrated many of the risks that teenagers face today and discussed ways in which these risks could be minimised.

The play was very well received by both staff and students and we hope that it certainly gave the students food for thought and encourages them to be careful and cautious when interacting with unknown individuals, especially taking sensible steps online.

If any students in the school have been affected by any of these issues, they can speak with the Safeguarding Officer or Safeguarding Assistant, Mr Steve Hurl and Miss Caroline Shepheard. Alternatively, support is available via the Harrow Safeguarding Board via: http://www.harrowlscb.co.uk/children-young-people/cse/
