International Day of the Girl Child

In today’s assembly, Regent Independent College students learned about the International Day of the Girl Child. This event falls annually on 11th October and is a UN led initiative to raise awareness of the inequalities that female children face in some parts of the world.

Students learnt about the challenges that girls face across the world and the difficulties they have in respect of gaining access to a good education, good nutrition and safe medical care.

Girls also have to fight for their legal rights and protection from discrimination. Sadly, violence against women and unfree child marriage is still surprisingly common.

Our students were reminded that they were fortunate to live in a country that promoted equality between the genders.
