On Monday 16th October 2017 our Biology teacher, Mr Phil Arthur, took a group of second year A-Level Biology students to Kew Garden’s, accompanied by the College’s laboratory technician, Mrs Saira Khan. The trip had two purposes. In the morning session the students carried out the ecological sampling techniques which they had previously studied in the classroom. During the afternoon the students were divided into several groups, each group was then asked to plan and carry out an ecological investigation. The students’ activities were overseen by Kate, a member of Kew Garden’s education staff. Our staff were very impressed by the way that Kate ran the course and would not hesitate to return to Kew Gardens in future years. The participants were very lucky with the weather: in the morning they enjoyed sunshine and in the afternoon they left before the storm arrived. The students’ attitude and behaviour were exemplary and all in all, it was deemed a very productive day.
