Regent College hosts the First Transnational Meeting of the YOGIES project

Regent Independent College, located in Harrow, UK, hosted the First Transnational Meeting of the Youth Olympic Games in European Schools (YOGIES) project on 17th and 18th February 2017 with members of its partner schools from the Czech Republic, Italy, Turkey and Lithuania, all in attendance. The meeting started with a welcome from the host college, followed by presentations from partner schools on their provisions and the educational systems in their countries. This was followed by a presentation on Erasmus+ and detailed discussions on the details of the project, including the aims, activities, methods, outputs, tasks and budget rules.

A project logo competition was held where each partner school chose its five best logos and brought it to First Transnational Meeting. The winner of the logo competition was judged on the second day of the meeting by the project team with the Turkish team winning the first prize and the Italian team winning the second and third prizes respectively.

About Youth Olympic Games in European Schools (YOGIES)

Youth Olympic Games in European Schools (YOGIES) is an Erasmus+ project designed to bring European school partners together in sporting events and to explore issues of engagement in education. It involves students and teachers from five countries including the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Italy, Lithuania and Turkey. The project started in March 2016 and will continue till April 2019. Regent Independent College is the lead partner and project co-ordinator of the YOGIES project.

The project partners include:

  • Gymnazium Karvina Prispevkova Organizace, Czech Republic
  • Istituto Istruzione Superiore “Raffaello” Urbino, Italy
  • Ozel Antalya Has Anadolu Lisesi, Turkey
  • Prienu R Stakliskiu Gimnazija, Lithuania
  • Regent Independent College, UK

Over the course of the next three years small groups of students from each of these institutions will meet in each partner country to participate in sports, learn about one others’ countries and share ideas and perspectives on the reasons for early disengagement in education and good practice to help avoid this.

About Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Its budget of €14.7 billion will provide opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, gain experience, and volunteer abroad.
