REMEMBRANCE DAY
On 11th November 2015, Regent held its annual Remembrance assembly. The special commemorative assembly was presented by Head Teacher, Mr Steve Hurl, with support from Economics teacher, Mr Griffiths and the Head Boy and Girl, Bhavik and Jaina.
Students were told of the history of the poppy and its role as a symbol of the human losses endured during both the First and Second World Wars and the many conflicts that have since followed and then shown clips of troops ‘going over the top’ in the trenches which really brought home the horror of trench warfare.
This was followed by a recital of the famous poem, John McCrae’s In Flanders Fields’ and then of the Ode of Remembrance.
Before the two minute silence, the Last Post was played to the students before the school joined the BBC feed as the nation came to a respectful standstill for two minutes, in thanks to those who have lost and continue to lose their lives in conflict and war.
